Bergen – the gateway to the fjords

Find out what Norway's second biggest city Bergen has to offer. Nicknamed "the gateway to the fjords" and surrounded by mountains, there are plenty of natural attractions to explore. Bergen also has a lively cultural scene with lots of art, music and festivals.

Bergen is one of Norway’s most popular tourist destinations, and no wonder. The Hanseatic wharf Bryggen, with its characteristic colourful buildings, is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and there is a rich cultural life to explore. Experience one of the world’s oldest symphony orchestras, a professional ballet company, a vibrant jazz and blues scene, several theatres and concert halls, outdoor summer opera and some great outdoor concerts.

There are a couple of definite must-sees. The first is a visit to the KODE Art Museums of Bergen, where you can marvel at the largest Edvard Munch collection outside Oslo. The other unmissable activity is to visit Troldhaugen, the home of Edvard Grieg and listen to one of the daily concerts in perhaps Norway’s most beautiful chamber music hall, located in the midst of the museum’s grounds.

Buses to central Bergen
