Fly direct to Ålesund with Norwegian

Fly direct from London Gatwick to Ålesund with Norwegian. With prices from £34,90*, you too can combine hiking and city life on your summer holiday.

Your adventure in Ålesund starts here

Ålesund has been voted one of the most beautiful cities in the world, but there is more than architecture to call the traveller to the streets. With galleries, museums, great shopping, cosy cafés and sophisticated restaurants, Ålesund has an abundance of activities and attractions that help to create a truly unforgettable experience.

Imagine the views that await after climbing the 418 steps up to Mount Aksla, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region. Not only will you see this amazing city from an entirely new perspective, you can also see all the way to the Sunnmøre Alps and the islands by the coast.

It can be hard to believe that the splendour of Ålesund has sprung from tragedy. In 1904, fire raged the city, destroying most of the homes in the centre. Thanks to an incredible rebuilding effort, the city had risen, phoenix-like from the flames, by 1907.

If you want to learn about the city's history, visit Jugendstilsenteret (the Art Nouveau Centre). It features a time machine that takes you back a century in time and presents a fascinating insight into the story of the great fire. Also, Aalesunds Museum offers an exciting insight into the history of the city as well as of the local fishing industry. For more about life in the sea, visit the Atlanterhavsparken (the Atlantic Sea Park), one of the largest aquariums in Scandinavia. Atlanterhavsparken is situated in the midst of a scenic area with hiking paths, monuments, fishing grounds and a beach where you can go swimming or scuba diving.

Last but not least, the open-air museum Sunnmøre Museum, beautifully situated in the old Borgundkaupangen, features cultural and historical exhibitions, as well as a vast collection of old buildings and boats.
