Discover two exciting cities on a short break to Fjord Norway
The fjord cities Stavanger, Bergen and Ålesund each enjoy a great location along the coast of Norway. With Norwegian, you can visit two of them in the same break.
Stavanger, Bergen and Ålesund used to be natural centres for international trade and especially the export of fish. As a result, they are quite cosmopolitan and open to the rest of the world, at the same time as they function as bearers of Norwegian culture and heritage.
The three cities offer a wide range of cultural activities year around. They are also the natural starting point when you want to explore the stunning fjord landscape and enjoy outdoor adventures in this natural scenery.
Stavanger and Bergen in one short break
Thanks to great connections between Stavanger and Bergen, there is no need to make the difficult choice of where to go – it is easy to visit both cities in one short break. They both have a long, fascinating history and both are former European Capitals of Culture. Start your journey in Stavanger, take the express bus to Bergen and simply fly back home from Bergen with Norwegian.
A few highlights in Stavanger are to visit the Norwegian Petroleum Museum and the Cannery Museum, to walk the charming cobbled streets of Old Stavanger and to enjoy local food in the city’s many excellent restaurants. Make sure you also find the time for some cultural experiences, for example a concert in the splendid new concert hall.
In Bergen, do not miss the Hanseatic Wharf Bryggen, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Enjoy the views of the city and the surrounding islands from Mount Fløyen, a short funicular ride away from the city centre. Bergen can also offer a wealth of exciting cultural experiences. A couple of suggestions are to visit the home of the composer Edvard Grieg or enjoy a jazz or rock concert in one of the clubs in the city centre.
Norwegian has two daily departures from Bergen to London Gatwick.
If you are looking for even more adventures, stop in Haugesund on the way to Bergen. Haugesund is known for its Viking heritage and the
Viking village at Avaldsnes.
Ålesund and Bergen in one short break
Norwegian has two weekly flights from London Gatwick to the charming coastal town of Ålesund.
The Art Nouveau town of Ålesund could be taken right out of a fairy tale. If you look up as you explore the town, you will discover an abundance of imaginative ornamentations on the fronts of the buildings. Walk up the 418 steps to the top of Mount Aksla and you will be rewarded by an unforgettable panoramic view. If time allows, hire a car and experience the Atlantic Road, named by The Guardian as the world’s most beautiful car journey.
Go to Bergen on an overnight journey with Hurtigruten and wake up in the lovely coastal landscape along the coast. Enjoy Bergen before heading home with Norwegian.
